Musically-Driven Film ‘Southern Gospel’ Starts Production

The musically-driven motion picture, Southern Gospel, has commenced principal photography in Atlanta. It is one of many films kicking into gear after COVID-19 shut down movie productions for the last six months.

Southern Gospel tells the true story of a rock ‘n’ roll star ‘Samuel Allen’ who must overcome seemingly endless obstacles on his journey to fulfilling his childhood dream. The movie will feature ten original songs.

Actor and recording artist, Max Ehrich has been cast in the lead role of ‘Samuel Allen.’ Ehrich may be best known for playing ‘Hunter May’ in the Spielberg/Stephen King hit CBS series, Under the Dome, and was most recently seen in the Jenji Kohan produced dramedy series, American Princess and the heartfelt Netflix original film, WALK.RIDE.RODEO, which also featured one of Ehrich’s original songs, “Ride.” The actor previously earned four Daytime Emmy nominations for his work on The Young and the Restless.

Katelyn Nacon, who is known for her roles as “Enid” on AMC’s The Walking Dead and for also starring in Hulu’s Light As A Feather, is co-starring in the film.

The film’s producers are implementing a variety of COVID-19 related safety protocols. “Shooting a film during a pandemic is difficult, increasing both our budget and production time. But everyone has pulled together and worked hard to meet the challenge, and now we’re moving forward,” says producer Kent Munsey. “Our movie in a lot of ways is about redemption and renewal, so it’s reminding all of us there’s always light at the end of the tunnel – even after challenges like COVID-19,” he adds.

The supporting cast includes: J. Alphonse Nicholson (Just Mercy, Blue Bloods), Gary Weeks (Outer Banks, Spiderman: Homecoming, Burn Notice), Justice Leak (Supergirl, The Vampire Diaries).

“It’s incredible to see everything coming together. We faced a lot of challenges from the pandemic, but every member of the team has been working tirelessly for months on end, and we’re beyond excited to begin production,” says Munsey.
